Summary

From the book jacket
From Akira to Zombina, Airlocked! has brought over sixty Champions to holovision screens across the galaxies, each with a story to tell--stories often cut short by murder or execution. But one story has remained untold until now: that of Rox Petuu, the deadliest, most infamous Overseer of all. Now, for the first time ever, the truth behind Petuu's origins is revealed.
Fresh out from under the repressive heels of the Dick Elders, the people of Earth are eager to join the intergalactic community, and their opportunity arrives in the form of the Champion Excellence Program, a friendly competition between representatives of twenty worlds. Erwin, Earth's Champion Acrobat, is ready to meet fellow humans, aliens, and even artificial intelligences, and he sets out to befriend Rox, the strangely withdrawn Champion Sharpshooter.
But when Overseer Benny Marsh is found dead one Friday morning, the rules of the game change. Suddenly there's a killer in the Champions' midst. Alliances form, accusations are made, and Erwin finds himself wondering if there's more to Rox than meets the eye...

Notes

  • Many elements of this novel have been contradicted by later canon, owing to it being written during season 3 without access to future scripts. PAL, for example, is depicted as being affiliated with the Champion Excellence Program prior to Kip's involvement, and Noctis Lucis Caelum and Pyrrha Nikos are depicted very differently from the versions that would eventually be featured in season 4.
  • This is the second of three Airlocked! productions to feature a fictionalized version of a historical person, preceded by Luke Skywalker in the pilot and followed by Alexander Hamilton in season 4.
